Example of a quick UX review: Loto Quebec

Website context

Loto Québec was created in 1969 by the Québec Government to control and validate gambling-style games. Since its creation, the organisation has offered the population numerous lottery and gambling products.

While Loto-Québec’s main corporate site responded to user needs with regards to accessibility, we noticed room for improvement for the density of information. Both Loto-Québec and subsidiary sites contained a heavy amount of information that would be difficult for newer users to grasp.

Key findings

Our evaluation highlighted several opportunities:

  • Information density — The main site packed a large amount of content on each page, making it overwhelming for first-time visitors. Simplifying page layouts and improving content hierarchy would help users find what they need faster.
  • Accessibility — While the corporate site met basic accessibility requirements, subsidiary sites lagged behind, creating an inconsistent experience for users who rely on assistive technologies.
  • Mobile experience — With the proliferation of online and mobile games, the mobile experience needed more attention. Key user flows like checking results and purchasing tickets were not optimized for smaller screens.

With the growing shift to mobile gaming, our audit revealed that Loto-Québec could capitalize more on this growing sector.
