2 New Tools to Edit Your Captures!

The Capian Team didn’t sit back and relax this summer : we took advantage of you all being at the beach to add new tools that let you manipulate your screen captures more easily. Since we’re always listening to your feedback, we know that you wanted to do more with your screen captures.

Ask and you shall receive. Today, I’m glad to share with you Capian’s new crop and blur tools!

Crop

No more need to get your screen capture perfect on the first go-around. The new crop tool lets you crop your screen captures while you edit your report. Taking screenshots and annotating are still just as fast and now you also have the possibility to refine your selection later on when you fine-tune your report.

Since the original image is altered when you crop it, you’ll want to duplicate the original if you plan to use it elsewhere in your report.

Here’s how it all works:

  1. Chose the crop tool from the drawing surface toolbar
  2. Select the portion to crop on the screenshot
  3. Click the ‘Apply’ button to crop the image
  4. Capian will process the image and refresh it when done

Blur

Working with clients often means dealing with confidential information. In order to preserve the confidentiality of certain elements (client, administrative, or credit card information; address; name; etc.), Capian now offers a blur function to hide sensitive data.

Note: in order to offer you maximum confidentiality, we don’t keep any copy of the original, non-blurred images.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Select the blur tool from the drawing surface toolbar
  2. Select the area of the screenshot you would like to blur
  3. Click on the ‘Apply’ button to apply the blur
  4. Capian will process the image and refresh it when done

Image Quality

These two new features means that we need to alter the original image, which can reduce the image quality when working with JPEGs. In order to ensure the best-possible experience, we’ve improved the image quality for captures taken via the browser extension to use PNG files. This way, you retain the original image quality regardless of the number of times you crop or blur.

And more to come

We’re currently developing some new major features and are looking for beta testers. We really appreciate your feedback and, if you’d like, we’d be thrilled to count you among the privileged few that helps forge the future of Capian.
